6:1:2 Classes

Communication-focused classrooms containing six students, one teacher, and two certified teacher assistants, with additional one-to-one aides as mandated on students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

The curriculum largely consists of individualized programming that includes both one-to-one work with instructors and small group activities.  These classrooms focus on teaching functional language and readiness skills utilizing specialized curricular approaches, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Verbal Behavior (VB), TEACCH methodology, and the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). Assistive technology communication devices may also be used.

8:1:2 Classes

Small group/structured teaching classrooms that contain eight students, one teacher, and two certified teaching assistants, with additional one-to-one aides as mandated on students’ IEPs.

This classroom model builds on students’ social communication skills and focuses on social/emotional development within the context of small group activities.  Students’ language skills are further developed to include asking questions, expanding requests, negotiating with peers, and acquiring problem-solving skills. These classes follow a modified Common Core/Next Generation curriculum.
